Walk down King Street and you'll find many of Charleston's best spots to shop. But there are many great stores that won't be found with such a one-threaded approach.
With that in mind, the Charleston City Paper's Erica Jackson Curran did the roundup "Some of Charleston's best shopping is off the beaten path", featuring many hidden spots in downtown and around the metro area.
Featured are a mouthful of spots: Goat Sheep Cow, Avondale Wine & Cheese, Curiosity Shop, Alice & Daisy, Utopia, Rogue Wave Surf Shop, Indigo & Cotton, Mac + Murphy, Out of Hand, Southern Curator, Teal Boutique, Poe Studio, Bashful Boutique, Spacecraft, Mixson Market, and H&L Asian Market.
But, head on over here to read Curran's guide for her insights.
Also, while located on King Street, I feel compelled to add two more gems:
- Read Brothers on upper King which, although, it looks like a place better not entered you'll find some of the area's best audiophile gear paired up with an eclectic housewares and fabric shop.
- Worthwhile is located in the heart of King Street near Wentworth Street, but it's unassuming facade lets many walk right past, which is a shame seeing as the shop offers some of Charleston's best women's fashion, accessories, and gifts.
No doubt there are others — if something should be added, hit the edit button on this post.
